The health, safety and well-being of residents, visitors and team members remains our number one priority. We have worked closely with Public Health and implemented guidelines in line with best practice. Our aim is to protect our residents, visitors, and team members, from infections including coronavirus whilst ensuring that our residents  remain connected.

What we are doing:

During this pandemic we have implemented robust safety measures, cleaning processes and adapted our environments to minimise the risk of spreading the virus.

Our residents and staff have successfully completed their vaccination programme. We are all aware that  the vaccine does not prevent the infection, but it limits it’s effects on the body. Throughout this year, we have taken all possible steps to contain, delay and mitigate the spread of the virus in our homes. However, with the sustained increase in community cases, the risks of the virus being introduced to our Homes is once again significantly higher.

We need to maintain robust  protocols to reduce the risk of Covid -19 from re-entering our homes. If two or more residents or staff  test positive for Covid-19, we are obligated under Public Health regulations to suspend visiting for a minimum of 28 days. To reduce the risk of further infections, and further visiting restrictions, we are one of the few nursing home groups in the country to facilitate Rapid Antigen Testing for all visitors. This simple on-site test ,known as a lateral flow test, provides results within 20 minutes and offers peace of mind to all our residents, their families and visitors. We are delighted and extremely grateful for the  support we have received from our residents and their families  regarding this additional safety measure.

Vigilance for any known signs of the virus, and screening residents  for variations in body temperature and blood oxygen saturation levels which are early signs of an infection.

  • Regular  PCR testing for all staff.
  • LFT for all visitors and visiting team members.
  • Installation of sanitising stations for entrances to our homes and in all team areas.
  • Using a UVC Robot to assist with decontaminatination to assist  in maintaining strict infection control processes.
  • Provide plentiful supply of PPEs. All staff  trained in robust  Infection Control measures
  • In addition to this standard training,  all FirstCare managers and staff are currently training in a QQI award in Infection, Prevention and Control.

Visiting hours  and booking systems

In house visiting has now resumed in every home. For those who would prefer window visits, we can continue to facilitate these visits in our purpose-built gazebos.

Please contact our individual homes for booking visits.

We are welcoming new residents at FirstCare

We are delighted to confirm that we are now welcoming new residents following the success of the vaccine roll-out.

Our residents and staff have been fully vaccinated since early this year, however before reopening, we deemed it priority to first establish that it was extremely safe to do so.

Over the last number of months we have closely monitored for any potential risks as we gradually eased restrictions and we are delighted to report that all of our homes remain completely free of the virus.

Ongoing health and safety measures

Residents and staff are now enjoying the return to ‘normal’ life, however we continue to follow strict health and safety protocols and remain extremely vigilant as we cautiously emerge from these unprecedented times.

We have invested significantly in robust health and safety equipment and continue to screen all visitors before entry. We also monitor our residents twice daily for changes in temperature and blood oxygen levels for any sign of the virus.

We also ensure that prior to moving in, all new residents have a certified COVID-negative test result and complete the standard ‘protective bubble’ period upon arrival.

Why choose a first care nursing home

First Care nursing homes have excellent facilities in great locations across Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare.

At First Care we put our resident first by offering each resident individualised care based on their needs. Because each resident’s needs are different, in terms of physical, medical, emotional and social, residents need a package that’s tailored especially for them and which can be altered quickly as their needs may change.

We know that the transition into a care setting can be an emotional time for both residents and their family. That is why our relationship with every resident, their family and friends is integral to ensuring a seamless transition, enabling residents to continue important routines, hobbies and interests with discreet and sensitive support that retains dignity and wellbeing.
